City of Laredo to Host the 2022 PONY Softball-Fastpitch World Series

Laredo, Texas — The City of Laredo, along with the Laredo PONY League, will host the 2022 PONY Softball World Series in Laredo from July 12 through July 17, 2022. The City of Laredo and Laredo Pony League have successfully hosted this tournament in 2017 and 2018 with over 100 teams attending, ages ranging from 6 to 18 years old, and playing more than 500 games in a week’s span. This tournament brings hundreds of young athletes from around the state to show their talents.

The tournament will begin with opening ceremonies, which will be held on Tuesday, July 12, 2022, at Uni-Trade Stadium. Teams will participate in this ceremony with a parade around the field. The keynote speaker for the opening ceremony will be Cat Osterman, a former three-time National Player of the Year, four-time All-American, and two-time Olympic medalist. A native of Houston, Texas, Osterman helped to lead the University of Texas to three Women’s College World Series appearances in 2003, 2005, and 2006. She also became the only softball individual to win USA Softball’s National Player of the Year honors three times after earning the honor each of those seasons.

The games will begin on Wednesday, July 13 at four different facilities in the city. Categories are as follows:

  • 6U- Base Community Sports Complex located at 5000 Sandman St.
  • 8U- Base Community Sports Complex located at 5000 Sandman St.
  • 10U- Base Community Sports Complex located at 5000 Sandman St.
  • 12U- Benavides Softball Complex located at 102 S Malinche Ave.
  • 14U- Independence Hills Park located at 1102 N Merida Dr.
  • 16U- UISD Student Activity Complex located at 5208 Santa Claudia Ln.

Out-of-town teams and families will be able to visit local restaurants, hotels, and shopping centers, which will increase business, creating a big economic impact for the city with the opportunity to showcase excellent hospitality.
